Story of A Building
This book tells the story of how Julia Morgan came to design this masterpiece, what stunning use she made of light and space, and how the Club members have loved and used the clubhouse over the years, from its opening in 1930 to 2016. Julia Morgan’s Berkeley City Club: The Story of a Building is more than the first book devoted entirely to our beloved clubhouse; it is also a fundraiser for the Conservancy. Thanks to a royalty-sharing agreement with the author, $10 from the purchase of every copy at the Club is donated to the Conservancy for the preservation of the clubhouse. To date more than $1000 has been collected for the Conservancy. Author Sarah Gill, Club archivist, docent coordinator and former Conservancy board member, spent a year researching the book in the Club archives. It is available for $45 at the Club’s front desk and also on Amazon.
